Pita pizza is like having your own personalized mini-pizza! Grab some ready-made pitas, pile on your favorite toppings, and indulge in a quick and tasty snack for a delightful way to satisfy your pizza craving whenever it strikes!

I love finding recipes my kids can make themselves that are filling and so yummy. This pita pizza is definitely one I keep ingredients on hand so they can quickly make it as a snack or even a meal when our schedule gets hectic. I also recommend having ingredients on hand for air-fryer quesadillas, 5 minute million dollar dip, and my air-fryer grilled cheese.

Reasons You’ll Love This Recipe

  • Quick and Easy: This recipe takes 10 minutes to make. Its simple, ready-to-go ingredients make it possible for you to grab them out of the fridge and have a snack or meal ready in no time!
  • Budget-friendly: Grocery shopping can be a real challenge, especially when you’re feeding hungry teenagers. This recipe helps you stock up on simple, budget-friendly ingredients that satisfy everyone’s appetites without breaking the bank.
  • Delicious: Not only is this pita pizza simple to make and budget-friendly, but it is actually so good, and you can customize it to suit your tastes!

Customizable Pita Pizza

This is one of my favorite new recipes because of its versatility. You can easily customize it to suit your taste preferences. For instance, if you prefer veggie pizza, simply omit the pepperoni and add tomatoes, onions, mushrooms, and any other toppings you enjoy! You can also choose your base—whether it’s naan bread, whole wheat pita bread, or gluten-free pita bread!

Pita pizza is a fantastic way to make use of ingredients in your fridge. If you’re out of mozzarella, you can easily substitute it with a variety of cheeses such as cheddar, parmesan, or feta.

Ingredients Needed for Air Fryer Pita Pizza

The great thing about this recipe is how you can use these simple ingredients to make something so delicious and affordable. Scroll down to the recipe card for exact measurements.

  • Store-bought pita bread: This substitutes for pizza dough. You won’t have to wait for it to rise or toss it. It’s the perfect crust for your pizza!
  • Marinara Sauce: You can buy store-bought marinara or make your own homemade pizza sauce. If you don’t like marinara, you can drizzle olive oil instead.
  • Shredded Mozzarella Cheese: This cheese melts to a beautifully creamy texture and has a mild flavor, lending to the perfect base for other toppings.
  • Pepperoni Slices: These add a punch of flavor and a meaty texture. If you want to kick up the heat, then get a spicier pepperoni!
  • Basil & Red Pepper Flakes: Use these as a garnish. Red pepper flakes add heat, and basil adds a fresh herbal flavor that complements the cheese and sauce.
Overhead shot of labeled ingredients.

How to Make Air Fryer Pita Pizza

You won’t need to come back to the blog to know how to put this pizza together. Spread the sauce, add your toppings and let the air-fryer do its magic!

  1. Pizza Sauce: Spread about 2 tablespoons of marinara sauce on top of the pita bread.
  2. Cheese: Sprinkle on the shredded cheese.
  3. Toppings: Arrange the pepperoni slices on top and then add any additional toppings if you use them.
  4. Cook: Carefully place the assembled pita pizza in the air fryer basket. Cook at 375 degrees Fahrenheit for 5-6 minutes. Alternatively, place the pizza on a baking sheet pan, then bake for 5-7 minutes at 400 degrees Fahrenheit or until the cheese is melted.
  5. Serve: Slice with pizza and garnish with fresh basil and red pepper flakes if you would like!

Pita Pizza Perfection

You really can’t mess this recipe up! Here are some ideas to add variety! Get creative and switch things up to see what you like!

  • Toppings: Add any toppings you desire! Chopped veggies, pineapple, olives…the options are endless.
  • Pizza Flavors: Swap out the marinara sauce for BBQ, alfredo, or pesto sauce. We love to make BBQ chicken pita pizzas!
  • Protein: Add more protein by using chicken, ground beef, sausage, or salami!
  • Cooking Methods: Don’t have an air fryer? No problem! You can make this pita pizza in the oven or even the microwave!
  • Air Fryer Tip: If you use an air fryer, the pepperoni might blow around as it cooks. A trick my son taught me was to switch up the layering. Layer the sauce, pepperoni, and then the cheese. The cheese will help weigh down the pepperoni and keep it from blowing around.

How to Store Leftover Pizza

Pita pizza is best served fresh, but if you make too many or would like to have some on hand to heat up later, follow the instructions bellow.

  • Refrigerate: Allow the pizza to cool completely before placing it in an airtight container. Store in the fridge for 3-4 days.
  • Freeze: To make your pita pizza last longer, wrap it first in plastic wrap and then aluminum foil before placing it in an airtight container. You can leave it in the freezer for 2-3 months. Thaw in the fridge overnight before reheating.
  • Reheating: When ready to eat, reheat in an air fryer, conventional oven, or microwave. Follow the same heating instructions in the recipe card below.

The air fryer is one of the most versatile appliances in today’s kitchen! Learn how to use an air fryer to cook, reheat, and achieve that “fried” texture without frying in oil. Once you cook in the air fryer you will never look back!

Feel confident using your air fryer with this beginner’s guide! I can’t wait for you to try some of my tried and true air fryer recipes like this perfectly juicy chicken, these wings, or my brown sugar salmon.

Close view of an air fryer with the basket open.

Reasons to LOVE the Air Fryer

  • Fast and Easy: Reduce the cooking time on recipes with the touch of a button!
  • A Healthy Alternative: No more deep-frying food in oil! The air fryer eliminates using oil and cuts the fat content.
  • Crispy Results: The air fryer achieves that golden crispy texture on your favorite recipes!

How Does an Air Fryer Work?

What is an air fryer and how does it work? Air fryers are essentially small convection ovens. This means they work via the use of a heating element and a fan that circulates the hot air, which is why you don’t need to use very much oil when frying foods. The advantage it has over a traditional convection oven is the size! Since it’s much smaller, it takes a fraction of the time to come up to the temperature and cook your food. Check out my guide for choosing the right one to buy!

This appliance is a game-changer! It’s a huge time saver and acts like a second oven. I have so many easy and convenient recipes on the blog that use this incredible appliance! Check out my Best Air Fryer Recipe Roundup and this Healthy Recipes Roundup. I use the basket style, but I have also used the toaster oven style. The toaster oven style will have several settings in addition to the air fry mode, but both work great!

What to Cook in an Air Fryer?

The possibilities with an air fryer are endless! From making an entire meal to cooking frozen foods to simply reheating leftovers. You will find it to be one of your most used appliances!

Dinners, Sides, and Desserts

Frozen Foods and Snacks

  • Frozen Foods: Using it to cook frozen food is a must, and it’s even better than an oven! Use it to cook frozen meatballs, frozen French fries, or frozen corn dogs. It’s even easy for my kids to use when I don’t have time to help them.
  • Easy Snacks: It can do anything a microwave or oven can do! Use it to make easy snacks like quesadillas, grilled cheese sandwiches, and nachos!
  • Extras: I love using it for things you wouldn’t even think of! Did you know you can hard-boil eggs in the air fryer? You totally can! I also love it for making homemade tortilla chips, potato chips, and croutons for my salads! The possibilities are endless!

Safety Tips

The first thing you want to do when you purchase an air fryer is go through the user manual. There will be specific information about your particular model as well as safety information. Here are some more safety tips to keep in mind when using this appliance.

  • Well-Ventilated Area: When using your air fryer, always place it in a well-ventilated area, away from walls. Whether you store it in a cabinet or on the counter, always pull it out into an open area so the ventilation system in the air fryer can work properly.
  • Less Oil, the Better: Although air fryers are meant for frying, it’s not frying in the traditional sense. Never fill an air fryer basket with oil! Foods are meant to be lightly coated in oil and cooked in the air fryer, never submerged.
  • Use Hot Pads: Use heat-safe gear when using an air fryer. Oven mitts and hot pads are a must with an air fryer! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve burned myself on my air fryer being a little careless reaching into a hot basket!
  • Store it Unplugged: I like to keep my air fryer unplugged when it’s not in use just to be sure I never leave it running by mistake.
  • Remove Crumbs: Always empty the basket after each use. Avoid leaving any crumbs or leftover pieces in the bottom because the residue can burn during the next use.

Cooking Temperatures and Times

What temperature should you cook food in the air fryer? A good rule of thumb is to set your air fryer 25 degrees Fahrenheit lower than you would if you were cooking in an oven. It’s best to follow recipes when learning how to cook your food. But once you become familiar with it, you will have a good idea of what temperature to set the air fryer to. Here are general cooking temperatures and times for common foods:

  • Leftovers: 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 4-8 minutes.
  • Frozen Foods: 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 8-15 minutes.
  • Bacon: 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 5-10 minutes.
  • Vegetables: 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 8-10 minutes.
  • Chicken: 375 degrees Fahrenheit for 20 minutes.
  • Steak: 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 8-15 minutes.
  • Seafood: 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 10 minutes.

Food-Safe Temperatures

It’s important to cook your meat to safe temperatures when using the air fryer!

  • Chicken: Cook to an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
  • Beef: Cook to an internal temperature of 140-160°F (60-71°C).
  • Pork: Cook to an internal temperature of 145°F (63°C).
  • Fish and Shellfish: Cook to an internal temperature of 145°F (63°C).
  • Reheating Leftovers: Cook to an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).

Tips For Cooking in the Air Fryer

Once you get the hang of using the air fryer, these tips will help you achieve perfect results every time!

  • Is Preheating Necessary? Not necessarily, because air fryers generally work just fine without preheating. Some manuals will suggest preheating before cooking, but I don’t ever preheat mine.
  • Spacing: Avoid crowding your air fryer basket! Always leave space between the items in the air fryer for the hot air to move between. You never want to stack food in the basket. This will ensure your food is fully cooked through and has the desired texture on the outside.
  • Shake and Flip: Most recipes will have you shake the food or flip items halfway through the cooking time. Flipping is essential to certain recipes getting evenly cooked and crispy on both sides.
  • Take a Peek: Don’t be afraid to open your air fryer basket to check on the food! Because of how it works, you never disrupt the cooking process by opening the appliance. It’s like pushing “pause.” Simply pull open the basket then push it back into place to continue the cooking process.
  • Parchment Paper Inserts: One of my favorite cleaning hacks doesn’t involve any cleaning at all! Use a parchment paper insert made specifically to fit any style of air fryer like here or here. These disposable liners will cut down on the cleaning. Simply place a liner into the basket, add the food, and then cook like normal!

Cleaning the Air Fryer

When it comes to cleaning your air fryer be sure to check the manufacturer’s instructions first for any safety information involved with cleaning. But here are a few methods I recommend:

  1. Remove Any Crumbs: Always remove any crumbs that have fallen to the bottom of the basket. With the toaster oven style, there should be a pull-out mechanism for the bottom of the basket that catches crumbs, which you can remove and empty.
  2. Hot Water and Soap: The most straightforward way to clean the basket and inserts is with hot soapy water and a dish scrubber. Avoid using anything too abrasive to avoid stripping the non-stick coating. Rinse with warm water and dry before replacing the basket.
  3. Vinegar and Lemon Juice Steam: In a small heat-safe dish, add ¼ cup white vinegar and the juice of 1 lemon. Place the dish inside the basket, set it to 400 degrees Fahrenheit, then air fry for 5 minutes. After 5 minutes, let the basket sit undisturbed for 30 minutes to allow the steam to penetrate the grease and grime. Remove the dish, dispose of any leftover liquid, then rinse or wipe down all the surfaces with a clean rag.
  4. Lemon and Baking Soda: Another great method for cutting through tough grease is lemon and baking soda. Make a paste by combining the juice of 1 lemon and about 3-4 tablespoons of baking soda. Use a dish scrubber to apply the paste to the basket and scrub. Again, don’t use a brush that is too abrasive. Scrub and rinse with hot water. Allow the pieces to fully dry before using.

(Which if you haven’t already gotten a copy, you need my Tried & True Cookbook! It’s full of simple recipes!) This recipe for honey glazed salmon bowls has truly been a life-saver for those times when I have a million and one things to do… but I still want a tasty, wholesome meal! Plus, it’s macro-friendly and fits easily into my diet.

To make it you just need white rice, (or a rice alternative, see below for low-carb options!) a pound of salmon filets, a few pantry staple seasonings, and your favorite veggies! Trust me you guys- once you get a taste of this salmon you’ll be hooked. It’s made with such simple ingredients but tastes like it came straight from a restaurant! And the best part? Even my youngest approves. And she usually doesn’t like anything but chicken nuggets, so that’s a major win!

Don’t Worry!

This recipe is Picky Eater Approved!

Ingredient List

  • Salmon Filet: You’ll need about a pound’s worth of skinless, boneless salmon. Cut it into cubes that are all about the same size so they cook through evenly!
  • Salt and Pepper: Give the salmon its first layer of flavor. Adjust according to your tastes!
  • Soy Sauce: The base of the sauce for the honey glazed salmon bowls. It adds a savory flavor and also keeps the salmon nice and tender. Use low-sodium soy sauce if you don’t want your bowls to turn out too salty. (I used regular soy sauce, but it’s all up to preference!)
  • Honey: For some sticky-sweet goodness!
  • Minced Garlic: Because you can never have too much garlic, especially in these tasty salmon bowls! The fresh garlic helps to balance out the sweetness in the dish for a well-rounded flavor.
The honey glazed salmon ingredients. Listed are: salmon, salt and pepper, honey, soy sauce, and garlic.

Rice Bowls / Assembly

  • Vegetables: I used shredded carrots and broccoli florets, both precooked to save time! I also added some sliced green onions on top of my bowl for extra flavor.
  • Cooked White Rice: To help fill you up! You can also use brown rice or a mix of rice and grains for more fiber.
  • Sesame Seeds: Optional, but I love the extra flavor and texture that sesame seeds add.

Use those leftovers from your fridge!

These honey glazed salmon bowls are perfect for adding leftover veggies to. Whether its corn, peas, or salad greens, throw them in!

Ingredients to assemble the bowls with. Listed are: broccoli, shredded carrots, sesame seeds, green onion, and rice

How to Make Honey Glazed Salmon Bowls

The salmon only takes 6 minutes to cook, but 15 minutes to marinate. So use that time to assemble your bowl and steam any veggies if necessary!

Preparing the Salmon

  1. Cut Salmon: Cut the salmon filet into one-inch cubes and season with salt and pepper.
  2. Sauce Mixture: In a medium-sized bowl add the soy sauce, honey, and garlic. Whisk together until smooth. Reserve 2 tablespoons of marinade to brush on the salmon during the cooking process.
  3. Toss: Add the salmon to the remaining marinade and toss to coat. Then marinate for 15 minutes.
  4. Air Fry: Place the marinated salmon bites in a single layer into the air fryer. You may need to cook a couple of batches depending on the size of your air fryer. Cook at 390 degrees Fahrenheit for 3 minutes.
  5. Add More Glaze, Cook Again: Open the air fryer and brush the reserved glaze on the salmon bites. Close the basket and cook for an additional 3 minutes. The internal temperature for salmon should be 125-130 degrees Fahrenheit.

Assembling Your Bowl

  1. Add Your Favorite Toppings: Enjoy the salmon over rice with the cooked shredded carrots, broccoli, and green onion.
  2. Garnish: Garnish with sesame seeds and a drizzle of additional soy sauce if desired.

Tips and Tricks

A few ways to help you perfect these honey glazed salmon bowls and make them just the way you like!

  • Low-Carb/Keto-Friendly: This is a great option for low-carb diets! Simply swap your white rice for zucchini noodles or a bed of lettuce.
  • Add Spice: Add a drizzle of sriracha, sriracha mayo, or some red pepper flakes for heat!
  • More Veggies: Add sugar snap peas, edamame, sliced avocado, bamboo shoots, corn, spinach… the list goes on and on! Anything works here! The flavor of the salmon is super versatile.

Cooking the Salmon Bites On the Stove

If you don’t have an air fryer or just prefer to cook your salmon in a skillet instead, here’s how!

Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the marinated salmon bites to the pan and cook for 3-4 minutes per side, or until cooked through and the internal temperature reaches 125-130 degrees Fahrenheit. Since the salmon pieces are small, they should cook through relatively quickly. Be sure to keep an eye on them so they don’t burn! Enjoy!

Storing Leftover Salmon Bowls + Meal Prep

To store leftover honey glazed salmon bowls, let everything cool completely first. Then, divide the mixture into separate meal prep containers with airtight lids. This will prevent moisture buildup and loss of flavor. In the fridge, your prepped bowls will stay fresh and delicious for up to 4 days. If you’d like to enjoy them later in the week, consider freezing them. Simply store the cooled mixture in freezer-safe containers for up to 3 months.

When you’re ready to eat, thaw overnight in the fridge and reheat gently on the stove or in the microwave! You can also reheat the salmon in the air fryer for about 5 minutes at 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

This air fryer ham is moist and flavorful with the most delicious caramelized honey glaze! It’s super easy to make and tastes so incredible, you’ll never want to cook ham any other way! Your friends and family will all be asking for the recipe!

Ham is such a great main dish for many different meals, especially for the holidays! Some of my other favorite ham recipes that you might want to try are this apricot glazed ham, this honey glazed ham or this very popular garlic honey mustard glazed ham! You can even make ham in an instant pot!

Sliced ham in an air fryer.

Air Fryer Ham Recipe

Cooking your ham in the air fryer starts with a large, sliced ham that is already cooked. With this recipe, we are simply adding great flavor and heating it so it retains all of its juices, and gets a crisp, caramelized outside edge that will keep you wanting bite after bite! There are a variety of ways to heat up a cooked ham, and after trying it in the air fryer, it’s become my go-to way to cook ham.

Air fryer ham has such amazing flavor, juiciness and texture, yet it is so quick and easy to make! The simple glaze can be made in a matter of minutes, then baste the ham and let the air fryer work its magic. We line the air fryer with foil, so clean-up is a breeze too! Make this ham entree into a complete meal by adding some tasty sides like mashed potatoes, glazed carrots, some green beans and don’t forget fluffy rolls! Whether you’re cooking for Easter, Mother’s Day or Christmas, you’ll have the perfect holiday spread!

Ingredients Needed

You will be shocked at how wonderful this air fryer ham recipe turns out with just 4 ingredients including the ham! Check out the recipe card at the bottom of the post for exact measurements.

  • Ham: We’re using a 3 pound sliced, boneless spiral ham that is fully cooked.
  • Butter: Melted butter gives the glaze the perfect consistency and richness.
  • Brown Sugar: An essential ingredient, so the outside of the ham gets deliciously caramelized!
  • Honey: Adds extra sweetness and an irresistible honey flavor that you will love!

How to Cook Ham in the Air Fryer

Get ready for the best ham you’ve ever tasted with just 10 minutes of prep! This insanely delicious main course will be on your table in no time. Here’s how to make the glaze and cook the ham:

  1. Make the Brown Sugar Glaze: In a small saucepan over medium heat, add the butter, brown sugar, and honey. Heat until the butter melts and the mixture comes to a simmer. Remove from heat and set aside.
  2. Add Ham to Air Fryer: Line a piece of heavy duty foil in the basket of the air fryer. Place the ham in the center of the foil then fold up the edges of the foil around the ham.
  3. Brush on Glaze: Brush some of the butter glaze over the top and around the sides of the ham. Save the rest of the glaze to baste throughout the cooking process.
  4. Cook: Cover the top of the ham with foil and cook in the air fryer at 325 degrees Fahrenheit for 20 minutes.
  5. Add More Glaze: Baste with additional glaze, recover with foil, then cook an additional 15 minutes. The ham should reach 145 degress Fahrenheit.
  6. Baste Once More: Remove the top piece of aluminum foil and glaze the ham one more time.
  7. Finish Cooking: Increase the temperature to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and brown the top of the ham for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown to your preference.
  8. Serve: Remove the ham from the air fryer basket and slice and serve.

Tips for the Perfect Ham

Here are my top tips for juicy, perfectly cooked ham that the whole family will happily devour!

  • Larger Ham: This recipe calls for a 3-pound boneless ham, if you have a larger ham, cut it into two equal pieces and cook together (as long as both fit in the air fryer).
  • Wrapping in Foil: Not only does it make for easy clean-up, but it’s important to wrap the ham in foil to keep it super moist as it cooks.
  • Fully Cooked: This recipe is only for a pre-cooked ham. Be sure the packaging on your ham says fully cooked.
  • Internal Temperature: You definitely don’t want the ham to be overcooked and dry, it is ready to remove from the air fryer when the internal temperature is 145 degrees F.
  • Thaw it: If you have a frozen ham, then make sure to thaw it overnight in the fridge. Make sure not to start cooking it until it’s fully thawed!
Closeup of a cut ham after being cooked in the air fryer. It is surrounded by sliced carrots.

Storing Leftovers

Ham makes fantastic leftovers! Use it for sandwiches or reheat it for dinner the next night. Here’s how you can store it safely.

  • In the Refrigerator: If you have leftover ham, then place it in an airtight container (or wrap it in plastic wrap and then foil) and put it in your fridge. It can last up to about 4 days!
  • Reheating: Place the ham on a baking sheet and cover it with foil. Cook at 325 degrees for about 10 minutes or until the ham is heated through! You can also rewarm individual slices in the microwave.

If your family loves ham as much as mine does, you will want to try all of our favorite recipes using ham. You can’t go wrong with any of these dishes! They are all so delicious and easy to make!

Empanadas made easy by cooking them in the air fryer and using premade pie crusts for the dough! Filled with flavorful ground beef and tender vegetables, you won’t be able to keep yourself from reaching for another.

Empanadas are so tasty and satisfying to eat! If you’re looking for more delicious handheld snacks, try arepas or pupusas next!

Air fryer empanadas on a serving dish. One is broken in half so you can see the filling.

Air Fryer Empanada Recipe

Homemade empanadas are the best. But you know I’m all about ease, so making them in the air fryer is the way to go. These air fryer empanadas are still hearty and cooked to golden-brown perfection, the only difference is that there’s no frying them in oil and they cook up in 10 minutes!

And if you’re not already convinced, this recipe uses premade pie crust for the dough. In other words, even easier prep! It gets packed full with a tasty mixture of seasoned ground beef and veggies that you won’t be able to get enough of.

Ingredient List

Packed with savory ground beef, tender potatoes, and vibrant veggies, these empanadas offer a burst of flavor in every bite. And the best part? You can customize the filling to your heart’s content! Add more spice, swap the peas for corn, or throw in your favorite shredded cheese.

  • Diced Potatoes: Cooked until tender, they add a fluffy base and heartiness to the filling.
  • Lean Ground Beef: The main protein source of the air fryer empanadas. Feel free to substitute with chicken, turkey, or pork.
  • Vegetables: I added a mixture of yellow onion, red bell pepper, frozen peas, and minced garlic to the empanada filling.
  • Spices: Paprika, cumin, oregano, and chili powder bring warmth, depth, and a touch of heat.
  • Tomato Paste: Concentrated tomato flavor that thickens the filling.
  • Beef Broth: Adds moisture and depth of flavor. Vegetable broth or chicken broth will also work!
  • Premade Pie Crusts: Saves time and effort, choose your favorite brand or homemade recipe.
  • Egg Whites and Water: Combined to make an egg wash, it helps seal the empanadas and gives them a golden brown shine.

How to Make Empanadas in the Air Fryer

Forget deep-frying! Air frying these empanadas delivers that satisfying, golden-brown crust without the added fat.

  1. Cook Potatoes: Boil the diced potatoes until they are fork tender. Drain and then set aside.
  2. Sauté Beef and Veggies: In a large frying pan, saute the beef and onion until the ground beef is evenly browned. To the pan add the bell pepper and peas. Saute another 5-7 minutes, until the vegetables are tender.
  3. Mix in Seasonings: Add in the garlic, salt, pepper, paprika, cumin, oregano, and chili powder, cooked potatoes, tomato paste, and beef broth. Stir to incorporate the spices and liquids well, saute until the liquid has reduced. Then remove the filling from heat.
  4. Cut Dough: Roll the pie dough out. Then, using a cookie cutter or large enough rimmed cup, cut into about 4 inch circles. You will need to gather the scraps, roll them out, and cut more circles to get at least 10.
  5. Prepare Egg Wash: Make egg wash by whisking together the egg whites and water in a small bowl.
  6. Add Filling to the Dough: Place one of the dough circles on a work surface, place about 2 tablespoons of filling into the center of the dough, brush the edge of one side of the dough with a little egg wash.
  7. Fold and Shape: Fold the dough in half over the filling, creating a half circle. Use a fork to crimp the edges together. Continue with the rest of the dough and filling.
  8. Air Fry: Brush each empanada with egg wash and air fry at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 8-10 minutes, turning halfway through. Work in batches, keeping space between the air fryer empanadas.

Make Sure There’s Airflow!

In order for your empanadas to turn out crispy on the outside and golden brown, you’ll need to make sure you work in batches so there’s enough space between each one. Airflow is so important when it comes to cooking anything in the air fryer, but especially these empanadas!

6-photo collage of the empanadas being assembled.

Pie Crust Dough or Empanada Wrappers?

You can use empanada wrappers, but I find they aren’t always easily accessible. Pie crust dough works perfectly and is so easy to find!

Tips for Successful Air Fryer Empanadas

A few extra ways to make sure your air fryer empanadas turn out perfectly!

  • Work in Batches : Again, cook in batches, leaving space between each air fryer empanada for even airflow and crispy results.
  • Don’t Crowd: Overcrowding the air fryer basket will steam the empanadas instead of crisping them.
  • Serve With Sauces: Serve your air fryer empanadas with your favorite condiment, like salsa, guacamole, or sour cream! I personally love serving them with this cilantro lime sauce.
Empanadas in the basket of an air fryer.

Storing and Reheating Leftover Empanadas

Store leftovers in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 4 days.

To keep the empanadas crispy on the outside, I like to reheat them in the air fryer. About 5 minutes at 350 degrees Fahrenheit should do the trick!

Reviews of The Best Small Air Fryers

1. My Top Pick: Beautiful by Drew 3-Quart Air Fryer

The best small air fryers: Beautiful by Drew Barrymore
Credit: Walmart

I love my 6-quart Beautiful by Drew air fryer, and the smaller 3-quart version happens to be one of the best-rated small air fryers from my research! It’s so versatile with four presets: air fry, bake, roast and reheat. I regularly use my larger one to cook and reheat food (like my Mushrooms); it’s FAST, and nothing sticks!

I love that the basket and inner tray are dishwasher safe, and I just wipe down the outside with a damp cloth to keep the finish looking nice. It’s not your standard, black appliance sitting on the counter. It comes in three colors with an attractive, matte finish (less visible fingerprints!) and touches of brushed gold.

The Specs:

  • Weight: 8 pounds
  • Dimensions: 20.47 x 9.84 x 10.55 inches
  • Max Temp: 400°F
  • Capacity: 3 quarts
  • Control Type: Digital

The Pros:

  • Inexpensive
  • Easy to use
  • Heats up quickly

The Cons:

  • Fan runs loud
  • Digital screen difficult to see on the white model

What I love about it is that it will tell you when to flip food, so you don’t have to keep popping the drawer open to check on how cooking is coming along. This one handles frozen food with ease–you’ll have golden, crispy fries and nuggets in no time! It comes in four colors so you can match it to your kitchen.

The Specs:

  • Weight: 7.28 pounds

The Cosori is a space-saving option that has all the standard functions: air fry, roast, bake and reheat. The digital touch screen on the top is simple to use–just tap the bottom left icon to pick the cooking function, then set the time and temperature and hit start.

What I love about it is no preheating is needed, even for frozen foods or small cuts of meat. This is the most compact option from my research, and the best portable one, too. It is easy to move around on the counter or tuck in the pantry and it comes in four colors. It’s even small and light enough to pack for a trip if you can’t live without it!

The Specs:

  • Weight: 4.87 pounds
  • Dimensions: 5.9 x 6.2 x 3.5  inches
  • Max Temp: 400°F
  • Capacity: 2.1 quarts
  • Control Type: Digital

The Pros:

4. Best Small Air Fryer Toaster Oven: Ninja Digital Air Fry Countertop Oven

It’s great when one appliance can replace two, and an air fryer/toaster oven is a natural combination. The trick for getting consistent, crispy food when cooking is having space to spread things out. This Ninja air fryer toaster oven has the width to allow for that–and also has enough room to cook a 13″ pizza–but then it flips up to take up 50% less counter space.

Once you flip it up, the bottom opens for easy cleaning. It comes with a basket, sheet pan, wire rack, and removable crumb tray–all the things you need to easily air fry, bake, dehydrate, air roast, toast (up to nine slices of bread!), keep warm, and air broil.

The Specs:

  • Weight: 18.56 pounds
  • Dimensions: 19.72 x 7.56 x 14.96 inches
  • Max Temp: 450°F
  • Capacity: 169 cubic inches
  • Control Type: Digital

The Pros:

  • Easy to clean
  • Enhanced airflow
  • Large capacity

The Cons:

  • Heavy
  • Expensive

6. Best Air Fryer for One Person: Dash Tasti-Crisp Express Air Fryer

Best small air fryers: Dash Tasti-Crisp
Credit: Amazon

This little guy has a single temperature–400°F–so all you have to do is set the timer dial and occasionally check on your food while it cooks. It’s the best mini air fryer because it has a nice, wide crisper drawer to get more of that surface area for uniform cooking.

You could even fit two chicken breasts or a decent-sized steak or pork chop in there and it’s perfect for making appetizers like my cream cheese wontons! Just don’t forget to use a thermometer to check the internal temperature before serving. It’s great for one person, but the Dash Tasti-Crisp is a great choice for two people, too!

The Specs:

  • Weight: 6.1 pounds
  • Dimensions: 10.7 x 8.3 x 11.3 inches
  • Max Temp: 400°F
  • Capacity: 2.6 quarts
  • Control Type: Manual (digital version is $59.99)

The Pros:

  • Non-slip feet
  • Auto-shut-off feature
  • Easy to store

The Cons:

  • Glossy finish shows fingerprints
  • Trial and error to figure out the best cooking time

7. Best Air Fryer for a Small Family: Ninja 4-Quart Air Fryer

Best small air fryers: Ninja 4-quart
Credit: Target

This 4-quart model is perfect for a family of three or four because it’s just enough space for tasty side dishes without taking up a huge corner of your countertop. This Ninja does the standard air fry, roast, and reheat with the unique addition of dehydrating, so you can make healthy, chip-like snacks (like my apple chips) right at home.

The drawer and crisper plate are non-stick with a ceramic coating and dishwasher safe. This is also one of the best-rated small air fryers, which is no surprise given that Ninja is a well-liked brand–and for good reason! Ninja combines high-quality materials and powerful performance with affordable pricing.

The Specs:

  • Weight: 10.8 pounds
  • Dimensions: 8.5 x 12.1 x 11 inches
  • Max Temp: 400°F
  • Capacity: 4 quarts
  • Control Type: Digital

The Pros:

  • Roomy capacity

The Cons:

  • Pricier than other models
  • Bulkier than others

7. Best Compact Microwave Air Fryer Combo: GE 3-in-1 Microwave Oven

A picture of a microwave on a countertop.
Credit: Amazon

Although microwaves aren’t exactly small, the GE 3-in-1 lets you balance size and convenience by combining arguably the two most popular countertop appliances. The combination will save you space in the end, and this one was one of the most compact – and high-quality –  air fryer microwaves that I found.

This versatile appliance also has a broil mode, so you can take a piece of meat off the stovetop and finish it under the broiler without turning on your oven and heating up the whole kitchen.

To air fry, it uses the broil mode and convection fan together to get even cooking, and since it’s wider than your average air fryer, foods can spread out to get that all-over crispiness without having to flip them midway through.

The Specs:

  • Weight: 35 pounds
  • Dimensions: 16.6 x 20.6 x 11.88 inches
  • Max Temp: Not specified
  • Capacity: 1 cubic foot
  • Control Type: Digital

The Pros:

  • Versatile
  • Easy to clean
  • Includes accessories

The Cons:

  • Heavy
  • Expensive

Others I’ve Researched

Ultrean 4.2-quart Electric Air Fryer

This option from Ultrean is on the larger side in terms of capacity so it’s a good choice for a small family. It’s comparable to the Ninja 4-quart in size and standard presets, but the Ninja pulls ahead with the unique ability to dehydrate foods. The Ultrean 4.2-quart Electric Air Fryer is available at Amazon for $95.99.

Gourmia 2-quart Digital Air Fryer

With a 60-minute timer that shuts off automatically and a variety of cooking presets this digital model is comparable to others reviewed. Gourmia has an impressive number of compact air fryers in the 2- to 4-quart range that are manual or digital. Because they’re all so similar, it was difficult to determine the value of any of them. The Gourmia 2-quart Digital is available at Target for $49.99.

Cuisinart Compact Air Fryer Toaster Oven

This very small, very lightweight (one pound!) air fryer/toaster oven gets up to a whopping 450°F and is easy to move around when you need to clean, but the capacity just doesn’t measure up to the Ninja model that flips up. I’d rather have more room to cook and not need it than be limited by capacity and have to make multiple batches! The Cuisinart Compact Air Fryer Toaster Oven is available at Amazon for $129.95.

De’longhi Rapid Crisp Air Fryer 4 Quart

The Rapid Crisp is unique because it has a small viewing window, much like an oven, so you can check progress without opening the drawer. Also, it has a hinged lid instead of a sliding drawer, so it’s just built differently from your average air fryer. This model is unique, but you can spend less for the same capacity and get the same results. The De’longhi Rapid Crisp 4 Quart is available at Amazon for $149.95.

GoWISE USA Electric Mini Air Fryer with Digital Touchscreen

Two quarts is just enough room for one or two people to enjoy crispy tater tots right out of the freezer. This is a pretty basic option that does the job and has an easy-to-use digital display, but there are others in this same capacity that are just as good and more affordable! The GoWISE USA Electric Mini Air Fryer with Digital Touchscreen is available at Amazon for $83.99.

Why You Can Trust Me

I am Alyssa Rivers, the foodie behind The Recipe Critic. I launched my blog in 2012 as a place to share my passion for cooking. I love trying new things and testing them out with my family. They can be my toughest critics, but they enjoy cooking with me and helping create delicious recipes to share!

My air fryer opened up a whole new way for me to create meals, sides, and snacks that are tasty, healthy, and quick to make. I considered how simple (or hard) it is to cook with one based on capacity, preset functions, special features, and how easy it is to clean to make these recommendations for the best small air fryers.

What to Know About Small Air Fryers

Onion rings in an air fryer basket.

What to Consider Before Buying a Small Air Fryer

  • Weight: If you’re planning to move your air fryer between the counter and pantry, pick one that is lighter so it’s easier to transport.
  • Dimensions: Counter space is often at a premium, so keep an eye out for an air fryer that strikes a balance between physical size and cooking capacity (how much food fits in the drawer). Be sure and carefully check the measurements to ensure that the model you choose will fit in the allotted space!
  • Max Temp: Most air fryers cook as low as 150°F (reheating and keeping warm) and 400°F (air fry, roast, broil, etc), with some reaching up to 450°F. These temperatures will do pretty much everything, including roast veggies and cook proteins. Temps up to 450°F are ideal for cooking homemade pizzas.
  • Control Type: Manual or digital comes down to personal preference, and manual air fryers with dials tend to be more affordable than digital displays. Many people feel they have better control with digital because they have absolute clarity on the temperature and cook times they’ve selected.
  • Capacity: This is how much room the drawer has for food. Remember, good air circulation is the key to getting consistent cooking, so filling the drawer to the top likely won’t produce the results you’re looking for. Smaller air fryers tend to have less room for food to spread out, so if you plan to cook larger batches, you’ll have to toss or flip during cooking for the best results.

Some General Capacity Guidelines:

  • 2 quarts: good for one person, good for two people
  • 3 quarts: good for two people, good for small families of 3+
  • 4 quarts: good for small families of 3+

Are Air Fryers Worth It?

Even if all you do is air fry french fries or reheat chicken tenders, you’re likely to use it pretty regularly. I especially love using it in the summer when I want to avoid using the oven and cooking in a hot kitchen. I love mine and think it’s totally worth the investment!

What Are Air Fryers Good For?

With the right air fryer, you can do pretty much anything! Most have the standard presets to air fry, roast, bake, and reheat, but you can also dehydrate, broil, toast, keep warm, and more, depending on the model. It’s easy to cook proteins (like Chicken), tasty sides (Potatoes), and even desserts (Oreos). The sky’s the limit when it comes to what you can make, and a lot of them even come with recipe books.

Can You Put Foil In An Air Fryer?

An easy rule of thumb is if you can put it in a conventional oven, you can put it in an air fryer. So, yes, you can put foil in an air fryer. Although it will block the airflow from the bottom where the crisper tray sits, so you might have to give your food a flip or a little shake occasionally to make sure all sides get evenly cooked. Make sure the foil is weighed down so it can’t blow around inside and accidentally touch the heating element.

How To Clean An Air Fryer

Most air fryers have a drawer and crisper tray that can go in the dishwasher on the top rack and the main unit can be wiped down with a damp cloth after each use. The combination air fryer/microwave and air fryer/toaster oven can be gently wiped down inside and out. Be sure to follow the manufacturer’s guidelines for cleaning your device.

To complete this dinner, serve your pistachio salmon with lemon parmesan asparagus or a fresh green goddess salad and fluffy 1-hour rolls!

Ingredients Needed

This tasty sauce that coats the salmon is made with simple ingredients, and is a wonderful combination of sweet and savory. To find all of the exact ingredients, check out the recipe card at the bottom of the post.

  • Salmon: I like using fresh salmon best because the texture turns out more soft and tender. You’ll need 4 filets, about 6 ounces each, for this recipe.
  • Salt & Pepper: To season the salmon with.
  • Garlic: The minced garlic adds delicious savory flavor.
  • Dijon Mustard: Gives the sauce a sharp, slightly spicy taste.
  • Honey: Balances the other savory and sharp flavors of the sauce with a hint of sweetness.
  • Lemon Juice: Fresh is always best!
  • Pistachios: Adds the perfect crunch and texture to complement the tender, flaky salmon. They also add a delicious nutty flavor.

How to Make Pistachio Crusted Salmon

Not only does this salmon recipe taste amazing, but it’s so quick and easy to make. You can be eating it in just about 30 minutes!

  1. Prep: Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit and then line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Prep the Filets: Rinse the filets, then pat them dry and season each one with salt and pepper. Then place the filets on the parchment lined baking sheet.
  3. Make the Sauce: In a small bowl whisk together the garlic, Dijon mustard, honey, and lemon juice. Once the liquids are well combined, add the pistachios and mix well.
  4. Bake: Spread the pistachio mixture onto each salmon filet, and then pat it on firmly. Bake the filets for 18-20 minutes on the middle rack. Salmon should be flakey and temp out to 145 degrees Fahrenheit.
  5. Rest: Remove the salmon from the oven and allow it to rest at room temperature for a few minutes before serving.
  6. Serve: Enjoy the salmon with some lemon wedges!

Tips for Cooking Pistachio Salmon

Salmon is easy and straightforward to cook! It’s tender, juicy and filled with healthy fats and nutrients. Here are a few tips, so your salmon cooks up perfect every time you make it.

  • Air Fryer: Feel free to cook pistachio crusted salmon in an air fryer rather than baking it. Air fry it at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 10-13 minutes.
  • Don’t Overcook: Be careful not to overcook the salmon, or you’ll end up with a dry, unpleasant tasting fish. Cook it just until it’s slightly pink and flaky to keep it moist and delicious.
  • Let it Rest: Once the pistachio crusted salmon is cooked to perfection, allow it to rest for a few minutes before serving. This helps the juices redistribute, ensuring a juicy and flavorful bite every time.

Storing Leftovers

Pistachio crusted salmon is super tasty leftover! The only tricky part is reheating the salmon without drying it out and overcooking it. Sometimes I will just eat it cold over a salad to keep it nice and tender, and it’s great that way!

  • In the Refrigerator: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
  • To Reheat: Wrap each filet in aluminum foil to help seal in the liquids. Reheat in the oven for 10 minutes or until warmed through at 325 degrees Fahrenheit.

Air Fryer Fries Ingredients

Making these fries is a cinch. Just a few simple ingredients for fries that are both wholesome and delicious. A win-win! You’re never going to want to go back to deep-frying. Air fryers even work for other appetizers like egg rolls and onion rings! They’re seriously the best!

  • Potatoes: I like to use Russets for a fluffy texture on the inside.
  • OIive Oil: A heart-healthy oil that adds a bit of tasty, earthy flavor. Olive oil also helps your potatoes crisp up perfectly.
  • Italian Seasoning: Makes everything taste great. It’s my favorite blend of herbs!
  • Parmesan: So your air fryer French fries have a little melted cheesy goodness.
  • Salt and Pepper: All to taste!

How to Make French Fries in an Air Fryer

With just a fraction of the oil used in deep-frying, these are the ideal snack for anyone trying to eat healthier without sacrificing flavor! Give your loved ones the taste they crave with an appetizer that’s also heart healthy.

  1. Preheat Oven, Cut Potatoes: Preheat the air fryer to 380 degrees Fahrenheit. Then slice the potatoes using a fry cutter, or manually cut them into 1/4-inch strips.
  2. Rinse and Dry: Rinse the potato slices in cold water and then pat dry with a paper towel.
  3. Toss With Seasonings: Then in a medium-sized bowl toss with olive oil, Italian seasoning, Parmesan cheese, salt, and pepper.
  4. Air Fry: Place the fries into the air fryer basket in a single layer. Cook for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
  5. Toss, Continue Cooking: Toss the fries halfway through the cooking process so the fries get evenly cooked.
  6. Enjoy: Serve with ketchup, fry sauce, or your other favorite dipping sauce.

Work in Small Batches!

Getting the perfect crispiness means not over-crowding the air fryer. You may have to work in small batches because that’s essential to allow the air to circulate around all the potatoes.

Rinsing, cutting, and cooking the fries.

How Does an Air Fryer Make Them Crispy?

Similar to a convection oven, air fryers circulate hot air to cook the food. This process produces a crispy product without the added oil or extra calories of deep fat frying. It also cooks at a high speed, faster than a regular oven if you’re not already convinced! It’s compact and won’t heat your whole kitchen either. Plus, it won’t sacrifice flavor even though it slashes fat and calories. A total win.

Tips and Variations for Homemade French Fries

Delicious air fryer French fries made even better with these simple tips and variations:

  • Potatoes: Experiment with potato varieties. There are lots of different kinds of potatoes, each with unique properties. See which one you like best. Similarly, you can peel them or leave the peel on, however you like them!
  • Even Slices: Cut the potatoes evenly so they are all the same size. This way they will also cook more evenly.
  • Rinse or Soak: Whether you choose to just rinse your potatoes or soak them for up to 15 minutes, it’s important you don’t skip this step. It rinses some of the starch away allowing the potatoes to get nice and crispy. Just make sure you dry them really well, soggy potatoes equals soggy fries.
  • Spices: There are so many different spices to try: black pepper, smoked paprika, chili powder, cumin, ranch seasoning, Cajun seasoning, garlic powder and rosemary, let your imagination run wild.

Storing Leftovers

Although they might not be as crispy as when they were freshly made, your fries will keep in the fridge for up to 5 days and 2 months in the freezer. Just make sure they’re in a sealed, airtight container or bag.

To Reheat: Bring refrigerated or frozen fries close to room temperature. Reheat at 425 degrees Fahrenheit in the oven or in the air fryer for about 5 minutes or until they are the texture and temperature you want. Then enjoy all over again with your favorite sauces! Fry sauce is always a good choice, but I have really been liking this copycat Cane’s sauce recently.

Air Fryer Chicken Tenders Recipe

Cooking chicken tenders in the air fryer is one of the best ways to cook chicken. It’s juicy, tasty, crunchy, and healthy (no more dealing with all that messy oil)! It’s the best of both worlds. The other winning feature of this dish is it’s super fast. I love things that are quick and healthy.

These are so good you will reach for them over and over. Serve this tasty finger food with your favorite dipping sauce. My favorite is The Famous Cane’s Sauce or my classic Fry Sauce. Try something new, try two or three, or just experiment with your favorites! They’re so easy and go with just about everything.

Ingredients for Air Fryer Chicken Tenders

These ingredients are simple and flavorful and leave you with the same great taste you would get if you deep-fried them! Check out the recipe card at the bottom of the post for exact measurements.

  • Chicken Tenders: Boneless and skinless chicken breast work best for this recipe.
  • White Flour: White flour will adhere best to the chicken
  • Salt and Pepper: These enhance the flavors of the chicken.
  • Olive Oil or Butter: Either will produce a crisp and wonderful flavor.
  • Garlic: You can either use fresh garlic cloves or minced garlic from the jar.
  • Basil: I use dried basil so that it can mix well with the other seasonings.
  • Paprika: Creates flavor and adds a bit of color.
  • Panko: Panko creates a great crunch, but you can use bread crumbs too.
  • Parmesan Cheese: Freshly grated parmesan works best for the best seasoning

How Long to Cook Chicken Tenders in an Air Fryer

Cooking up these chicken tenders in the air fryer is so quick and easy! You will be done from start to finish in less than 10 minutes.

  1. Trim: If there is any excess fat on the tenders, trim it.
  2. Bowls: Set out three bowls. In the first one, fill it with flour and salt, and pepper. In the second bowl, fill with either olive oil or butter and garlic. Then, place the basil, paprika, panko, and parmesan cheese in the third bowl. Stir all of the bowls to mix.
  3. Coat: Dip the chicken first in the flour mixture, then the garlic butter, then the panko mixture. Make sure to evenly and thoroughly coat each piece.
  4. Cook: Place the tenders in the air fryer and then cook at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 9 min. Flip and cook for another 8-9 min or till the internal temp is 165 degrees F.

Tips and Substitutions

There are a few things that you can change up or substitute to make sure that your air fryer chicken tenders turn out perfectly!

  • Panko: You really want to use panko breadcrumbs instead of regular breadcrumbs. They are lighter and airier, and because of that, they will absorb less oil and end up crispier. Breadcrumbs will work, but they’ll be heavier.
  • Shake: A fun way to involve your kids in the baking is to put the panko and seasoning in a large ziplock bag. Then, place the chicken tenders in and let the kids shake it up.
  • Spices: You can definitely mix this up and add different spices to your panko mixture. You can mix up the spices with Italian, Mexican, Cajun, or whatever you want.
  • Dry: Pat the Chicken dry before you dredge it. It’ll help all the goodness stick together.
  • Press: To help your coating stick, press the crumbs onto the chicken strips.
  • Crowding: You don’t want to overcrowd the air fryer. They shouldn’t touch to allow maximum airflow; they’ll cook nice and even.
  • Over Cooking:  This is a no-no. Use a meat thermometer and test them before you think they are done to ensure you don’t overcook them. You are looking for a temp of 165 degrees Fahrenheit. Overcooking the tenders will dry them out.

Storing Leftovers

These air fryer chicken tenders can easily be stored and reheated the next day! It’s the perfect, easy lunch or snack option for any day of the week.

  • In the Refrigerator: Store leftover tenders in an airtight container or large resealable bag in the fridge for 3-4 days.
  • In the Freezer: Freeze these after they have cooled completely. To keep from sticking, line them on a baking sheet for 2 hours in the freezer. Then, transfer them to a freezer-safe bag or container. Freeze for up to 3 months.
  • To Reheat: To keep them crispy, reheat them in the air fryer. Heat at 375 degrees Fahrenheit for 5-10 minutes, flipping halfway through, till hot.
